running different servers on the same computer.

Postby john0114 on Mon May 12, 2008 4:29 am

this may be a dumb question, but is it possible to run 2 or more servers on the same computer, as in one server running osrose, another osirose. etc....

I've been tinkering around with it but it doesn't seem to work. thanks in advance.

Is this the wrong section? But anyways.. I'm pretty sure it is possible.. depending on the kind of server you run. I think it must be 2 different games.

I think it's possible, you'd need to change the ports for each server though, and use the _port option when launching trose.

There is a _port option?

I never knew that one. How does it work with 3 servers (login, char & world).

Well, you give it the login server port (default 29000 or something), then the login server gives the client the char server port, then that gives the world server port.

I would have thought that running 2 or more different types of rose server on one PC would give serious problems because all of them are trying to use the same port 29000 for initial login.

You would need to use some sort of internal DNS then set up virtual websites (or subdomains) in your server so that each server resides in a different one. That way you could send the packets to the right place instead of just throwing them all at your main IP address.

I haven't actually tried this but it should be possible with the right configuration

Yes there is. This is out of the hex of TRose.exe
_pw._userid._RCODE_JP_HG...._dup...._test..._direct.
_serverID..._port..._server._noui..._sight.._1280P.._1280..._1024..._800
...._WINDOW_MODE_...@TRIGGER_SOFT@

You can run a irose login server @ 27000, char 27100, world 27200 and for evo 29X00 standard ports.

Interesting. never tried that. Do you actually have to hex it in trose.exe though?
