QSD Reader

Postby PurpleYouko on Mon Dec 08, 2008 4:15 pm

This Excel utility does not actually edit QSD files but it does read them in a format which will make sense to you.

Required:
Microsoft Excel
comdlg32.ocx Some computers do not have this installed
Make sure your Excel security is low enough to allow macros OR put the file in a specific folder and set that folder as a "Trusted" exception so that macros will always be enabled from it. (excel 2007 only)

Instructions:
Click the QSD tab
Click on the button at the top of the page labelled "Load QSD"
Navigate to your chosen QSD file
Click "OK" and it will parse the file, decipher it and display the results.

With a little work, this utility could also be made to save QSDs. Just be careful if you plan to modify it. ;)

A bug does not allow me to open the dialog box LOAD QSD.
The error is corrected and the file works perfectly.
C'est tout pareil que l'origine sans le bug.
Merci PurpleYouko

I don't think fixing the bug on your computer will make it work on anybody else's

The bug you mention is not a bug in the code.
it is related to a missing file in the user's computer.

That file is comdlg32.ocx which you can find here http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/support_dll.phtml?dllname=COMDLG32.OCX
Downloading and installing this will make teh reader work for anybody.

Hi PurpleYouko,

Thanks for this tool, I'm using it to better understand all the magic of QSD files.

I made some improvement of your tool to help for some cases.

Firstly I made a v2 by adding a "read all from QSD folder" button to be able to see all QSD files at same time. I used it to be able to quickly find a quest, find where it's stored to know which file I have to modify.

I then created a v3 by adding a "write hex" button to help to make quick changes to one qsd file.
I upgraded it a little bit (v3.1) by adding some functions to
- directly count file/block/record name length and update it in Hex column
- directly convert file/block/record name and update it in Hex column

I don't think this will help you. (I saw you made another VB tool that looks awesome :D )
I uploaded it in case it helps any people who use your excel version like me :)

NB : For info, don't try to read all and then write them into 1 file. It cannot work like this...

Nice job Laurenzzo

I still use this tool a LOT myself and I have added a bunch of things similar to what you described.
I too have a tab with a button to parse ALL the QSD files in a folder so that I can look up quests a lot quicker

I never did bother to add file saving to it though.
The main reason for that is that I plan on making a universal Quest editor at some point. It would include QSD, CON and LTB. Possibly even an NPC editor that would edit the NPC locations from the IFO files.

Not quite ready to start on that just yet though. All my current efforts are going into the 137 source code rewrite and if that all goes the way I plan then CON files may well be a thing of the past when all dialog handling will be in the server
