What server to use?

Postby wtfux on Sat May 29, 2010 12:03 pm

Hey guys, I hope you can help me. I want to start a rose pserver but I dunno what server I should choose.
Can someone tell me, how 'stable' osROSE is today? I like it, because you can edit whatever you want (you can't do this with arcturus). Is osROSE playable like the official naROSE server? Are the formulars okay or can it only be used as a fun/highrate server?
I like evo (osROSE), but it would be also cool to use ExJams libs to customize the client, but they only work on iROSE client. Can you tell me, how stable osiROSE is? I know that iROSE + arcturus is stable, but it's very hard to change something (asm) and it uses MsSQL (i hate mssql :P ).
How many clients is osROSE able to handle?

Can you recommend using osROSE and/or osiROSE for a lowrate pserver which should work like official?

And last question: Has someone successfully compiled osROSE under linux yet?

Thank you :)

The server you choose is up to you.

Each server is different, I cannt tell you if osiRose is still being worked on or not.

ospRose is good along with regular osRose.

Each would have their share of problems too.

I have been running osRose for many years and alot of different revisions since I started on the team.

Yeah I know, but this is more about the gameplay. Someone who works daily with osROSE should be able to answer this :?.
Are all quests working? Are the formulars to calculate stats okay? <- Something like this. I like osROSE because it's open source and can be customized but if you tell me, that it's till not in the state to 'replace official' then I'll have to use arc* :(.
I just don't want to open a 'fun server' with 'ridiculous rates' but a server where you can play like @naROSE.
Thanks :).

I tested osROSE dev the last days, which seems to be much better than rev 80. I got some questions:
  • Is exp calculation correct? With low rates I can level to ~level 15 at Jelly Beans without having to kill much of them. For level 1-4 this would be fine, but 15
  • The server crashs when there is a known packet with illegal content. Isn't it possible to try-catch an error and just kick a player if the server encounters a problem while reading the packet?

And again the question that I've already asked:
  • Are the calculations/formulas close to the official ones? Like Stats, Dmg, Exp, PVP. I'm asking this because else I'd try to adjust them.

I just read my posts in this thread and they sound a bit like "osrose is *^^*". Sorry for that. That wasn't my intention and I respect your afford you guys put into this project. That was just because I still remember the very old revision where many things weren't correct (like a quest system which didn't work) and I didn't follow the development of osROSE for quite a long time now. But today I have to say, that it's better than I thought. Nice work :).

Hope someone can answer me the questions above, the devs should be familiar with it ;). Thx.

Well you can adjust it in the list_config and to your own taste actually. Not speaking about the .STB (list_npc).

  • Sadly it's not done under Visual Studio so it just doesn't work that way ;)
Though a while ago I posted a code that ported the error trapping system (SEH or something?).
    viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2347&p=28050&hilit=catch#p28050

But honnestly I didn't test it a lot, if you want to give it a try... :)

Btw. If you know a certain way to make it crash with a packet, PM me with an example and I'll try to see what we could do, it'll be easier that way.

The dev rev isn't perfect, the next rev will be far better thanks to the hard work on some other people.

Yeah well I know we have a long way to go... The next rev will add some extra interesting stuff too, I guess there is a bugfix list somewhere (far from complete).
For now I'm coding the new refine system sine naRose changed it.
The world is full of love and peace ^_^
