well that i would have done the same way as the sparta helm tut shows basically, well what i normally do in such cases is find a picture with a good angle, then create a plane with the same height/width ratio as the picture in 3dmax and set the picture as a texture to the object, then take a line tool and draw the shape of the helm, u can add as much detail as you want then, and then simply shape the object into a 3d model, just if you do that make sure you draw in a flat view, for example top view, otherwise u will screw up with the 3rd axis and will need to adjust each point manually

dont be afraid to use several objects, sometimes its a lot easier to create it in several parts and then just splash them together

Yes, I've noticed that. Only for the upper layer of the helmet I already used like 4 objects just to get the shape right. I hope to finish it today or tomorow, I would love to know what you think of it when it's done.

*Finally down to the final part, the horn. It turns out to be a pain to make with my current skills haha

the poli count might be an issue in rose though, but if its not used way too much should be ok, id test it with like 20 players having it on and see if rose engine doesn't start to choke, it sometimes hates high poli models
