Well, I thought someone should start a topic on what the base client should be.
I'm thinking 112 would be a good choice, because it doesn't have Game Guard, but it also crashes when you select your character. I'm just guessing but I'd say it's a packet problem causing it to crash.
If we go for 124, then all servers will need people to mod their hosts file to set up the virtual game guard, or someone will need to take the GG load/check out of the client. From the looks of it, it's loading a GG patch that is too new (It's getting it from the official servers) which causes it to crash. Ok, so I just checked 124 again, and when I try to connect I get "Client sent incorrect blockheader" in the login server.

Anyone have suggestions?

well there probably should be some game guard v1.0 or something laying around, then we can set up a server with that

im more curious whats the actual differences between the 2 versions

112 is working perfectly for me with an unmodified (as yet) osirose server.
The only thing i have done so far is to take the STBs and QSDs out of the 112 client and put them into the server rather than irose ones.

No crashes. I can log in and play without any problem

I prefer to stick with a non-GG version to avoid the problems that will otherwise arise.
Such as the fact that i can't run it at work :)

try logging into my test server at ktrose.no-ip.org
several people have already made accounts today but I'm not sure if anyone other than me has actually gone into the game yet.
Since I am using a dedicated server PC and logging in via the internet rather than localhost of LAN I assume that it should work for everybody.
Need to lookup information on NARose items, skills, quests?
Now featuring a newly completed skill tree for all classes

112 seems like a good choice. Me and Rob still can't connect, but that's a packet error on the server side (It causes us to crash, and other peoples names to get messed up) I'll post a fix based on pepu's in the submit code section.

Rob is now into his own server after your mod Drakia.

Here is the mod

in worldpackets.cpp find

replace with
  1.  
  2. SETWORD( pak, 0x2f2, 0x00 );
  3.     SETWORD( pak, 0x2f4, 0x00 );
  4.     SETWORD( pak, 0x2f6, 0x00 );
  5.     SETWORD( pak, 0x2f8, 0x00 );
  6.     cbyte = 0x2fa;
  7.  

What i don't understand is that Pepu and i can both log into our servers without this.
Pepu is also currently in mine too

One problem we have is that whenever we come into visual range of each other we get a big fat trose error

That´s the best packet diference between irose and narose..
