[hueRose Project] Short Lived

Postby kismetbecomes on Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:32 pm

I've been working like crazy for the past few months now and finally decided to ditch the whole thing. First, I don't have the developers to help me out with the project then the hosting is costing me quite some. Here are the things I did with web system. Hmmm.. :D

Features:

Add news:

Read more: (Full news page)

Drops Database Search:

User Panel:

Convert Vote/Donation Points to any Currency ingame (Honor, Valor, Premium):

You may check the website in action here:

I also have this neoncube based patcher modified:

Does anyone need an ADD NEWS (directly to database) script/cms? I'm too lazy to check all CMS if they have add news system if none ~ I can make one and release it... Can't release the things I posted above ~ its subjected for something else.

Well if you need anything WEBSITE related - comment it and I'll set some time to develop it for you. :D ~cheers!

Why is the hosting costing you anything?
I host all my stuff (other than my rose compendium) on a five year old PC in my basement. It costs pennys a day for the electricity and I already have the internet connected to my house. I just route the no-ip address to the WAN IP of my router and then set up a port redirect on my router so that all port 80 (website) traffic goes to the host machine.

Thing is, people are complaining about the bugs and all ~ plus the crashes. I manage to fix some things but those are all minor stuffs. I'am no coder. The next updates naRose will be releasing is really good and hueRose might not be able to survive from that because those are really good stuff they are releasing. Maybe for others who had dealt with the bugs and other issues about rev4/437 they might push through. But for me, I don't think so.

I think that MightyKai was being a little sarcastic about your idea to sell your work on an open source site
Particularly when 90%+ of your source code was provided free under the GNU license as dev rev 4.

I don't believe the GNU license actually forbids selling your modified source but around here on these forums it is considered "bad form"
After all the dev rev 4 came from a private server (roseZA) who decided to release back to the community when they stopped operating their own server
I did the same thing myself with my KTRose pre-evo source.

I'm not going to close this thread or try to tell you what to do with your source.
Just pointing out some facts ;)

But I'm not selling any piece of code that I got from here. I'm sorry if I confused you with the details or anything.

I'm selling my WEB SYSTEM which has features no CMS in here have ~ like point converter and such - I coded every character of it ~ I just think I get something out of my hardwork don't you think?

I'm not judging you.
I did possibly get the wrong idea about what precisely you are selling though.
Everyone deserves to get something for their hard work but in the real world (unfortunately) that doesn't seem to happen a whole lot.

I've made several CMS systems for rose servers and released them all to the public on the condition that end users leave my Google ad code in them.
Do you think anyone did so? I kind of doubt it :? i certainly have never seen a penny back in ad revenue.

Then i made my rose Compendium. I put in over 1000 hours on that alone. It's up there running for everyone 24/7. How many donations do you think I ever got?
One.... for $5
The ads do make a steady, if low, income though and would make a shit load more if everybody who used the site would simply click one ad each time they visit the site for information. I've made about $200 since the site was put up about 3 years ago and a third of that has gone back into maintaining the domain..
Ah well that's the way it goes. ;)

why selling things on a Opensource forum?

I think you have/had fun with OS Server files and stuff i you also get it free. if you wanna sell something just do it on ebay or something.

it's not that i wanna have you cms for free

it's like torents and usenet you take some you give some. if nobody gives only takes it's bleeding to dead.

think about it and sell it else where.

thanks.

Okay. I'm sorry.. :D

I didn't know that's why I was asking above if its legal or not. Well I know now that its legal but not very ethically right. I'll just edit the content of the post. I apologize. I didn't really mean to give off a bad aura by posting this. Again, my bad. ;)
