3D Engine choice

Postby lmame on Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:06 pm

There are many 3D Engines around, some free, some you have to pay for them or one can be used (R3E if ExJam is ok with it) or could be done in OpenGL or DirectX.

If you have some preferences or urls or experience with some, post them ;)

If you realy need a 3D engine , you could make a .lib file for rose's client engine : znzin.dll
Here you can find functions specifiactions (from xadet) : http://pastebin.org/458732

I think it's easiest way to start a client quickly without having to do the engine part . (Maybe after , you could make your own engine)

might be a lot more complicated having to recode the client for a different engine later on down the line.
Better to make the choice up front I think.
Need to lookup information on NARose items, skills, quests?

This is indeed true when you have designed an client on 1 engine it will take alot more hours to redo the client with another engine so we have to choose a good engine at front before we go in any future.

And the Rose Engine is out of date.
It does NOT support vista nor 7.
So we need to choose an engine that will support XP vista and 7.
or atleast vista and 7

It seems nearly all 3D engines do support them.

I'm not sure naRose's client don't support it, rather is bugged under Vista and 7 but definitly fixable.
Look at iRose's clients.

That's true.
But the Rose Engine is rather outdated and doesn't support high textures and models.
Like crysis or any other game we need to move with them to be looking good.
did you see Guild Wars 2?
We need to be atleast at half of that.
The funny side will be gone from rose but we will have some kickass private server.
We need to atleast upgrade the client engine.
